Frequently Asked Questions

  • What makes UnBound216 different from other prison ministries?

UnBound216 is distinct from other prison ministries in four major ways:

    1. Participation does not guarantee graduation, and program completion is not pass/fail.

Participants receive quarterly assessments and a final assessment based on 34 areas of holistic living.

    2. UnBound216 is inmate-led.

This not only means that our core curriculum and electives are taught by men inside, but also that all of the residents are accountable to our Community Standards 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

    3. Many of our UnBound216 leaders are theologically-trained through our partnership with the Birmingham Theological Seminary Prison Initiative.

Leadership positions, class instruction, and worship services are led primarily by men with theological training.

    4. The ministry of UnBound216 is integrally tied with the involvement of the local Church.

The ministry of UnBound216 cannot be separated from the involvement and support of the local Church - their pastors and their congregants. Because of our partnerships with local churches, men transitioning from the inside phase to the outside phase have a community of believers ready to welcome them into their churches, communities, and lives. This truly is Christian discipleship in every aspect and phase of a participant's life.
